When you’re ready to dominate a workout, the last thing you need is to be held back because of fatigue. But that’s where supplements like a pre workout can come in handy. With a good pre workout, you can experience boosts in energy, enhanced performance, and improved focus.† However, not every pre workout can provide the same or same level of benefits. And that’s where we come in! In this post, we’re reviewing and breaking down Ryse Godzilla Pre Workout and going over similar products!

Section Divider: What Is Ryse Godzilla Pre Workout

What Is Ryse Godzilla Pre Workout:

Godzilla Pre Workout is a pre-training supplement from Ryse Supplements. This version of the Ryse Pre Workout line features ingredients for promoting endurance and pumps while still promoting  long-lasting energy.†

Section Divider: Godzilla Pre Workout Ingredients

Godzilla Pre Workout Ingredients:

Ryse Godzilla Supplement Facts

Now let’s dive into the formula. The first thing to note is the fully disclosed label instead of having a proprietary blend. This feature can be important for comparing ingredients and dosages to other products. Godzilla Pre Workout also features a dual serving size formula. The initial serving size is one scoop with ~15.21 grams of active ingredients. If you’re sensitive to stimulants or new to pre workouts, you’ll want to stick with the one scoop serving size, leaving you with about 40 servings per container. Using two scoops will leave you with about 20 servings per container.

Ryse® Pump Fuel:

Our first ingredient from the formula is Ryse’s patented ingredient, Ryse® Pump Fuel, which features two forms of citrulline; L-Citrulline and Citrulline Nitrate.

Nitric oxide (NO) plays a major role in performance, where NO is an important modulator for blood flow and mitochondrial respiration. L-citrulline is an amino acid and precursor for another amino acid L-arginine. Where L-arginine is the primary substrate for nitric oxide biosynthesis. By supplementing L-citrulline, the body can perform a complex enzymatic reaction and produce NO. Citrulline may also improve blood flow, cognitive function, and high-intensity exercise performance. Generally, research on L-citrulline uses dosages between 3-6 grams. But, taking more than 6 grams may help promote oxygen content in muscles.  (1,2,3,4)

However, in Godzilla Pre Workout, there are two types of citrulline. While studies on citrulline nitrate support its effects for promoting exercise performance and blood flow like L-citrulline, there isn’t a standard dosage for this ingredient. (5) The combination of these ingredients provides 5.5g per scoop, which is an optimal dosage for supporting endurance.

Beta Alanine:

The next ingredient is beta alanine, which is one of the most popular ingredients in pre workouts. This ingredient is infamous for causing an itchy-tingling sensation with pre workouts (paranesthesia). The clinical dose range for beta alanine is 2-5g, so a dosage of 3.2g per scoop may be intense for individuals who don’t like that sensation. (6) However, this is an optimal dosage for beta alanine’s effects. This ingredient can help reduce muscle fatigue and improve work capacity by increasing carnosine levels. Carnosine can act as a buffer against muscle acidosis. This action reduces muscle acidity (the burn) during high-intensity exercises, which can help you push further.(7)

Betaine Anhydrous:

Following beta alanine on the label is another endurance aid, betaine, which is at 2.5g per scoop. Generally, a dosage between 2.5-6 grams is effective. Betaine may support increases in work capacity and power output—though not strength, as well as body composition and reduce fat mass. (8,9)

Creatine Monohydrate:

Next, we have creatine monohydrate, which is one of the most researched ingredients in dietary supplements. However, creatine isn’t often featured in pre workouts. One major reason for this could be that creatine isn’t time-dependent. So, taking it directly before your workout wouldn’t immediately affect your gym hit.

Creatine monohydrate is a combination of 3 naturally occurring amino acids: L-arginine, glycine, and L-methionine. In combination with resistance training, creatine can support building lean tissue mass and muscle strength. However, a possible interaction between creatine and caffeine may decrease the efficacy of creatine. This interaction is likely another reason we don’t see creatine in stimulate-based pre workouts. (10,11,12) Generally, creatine is dosed between 2.5 g to 5 g, which is the dosage set for Godzilla Pre Workout.

Choline Bitartrate:

Choline bitartrate is our first focus enhancer in Godzilla Pre Workout. There are a bunch of cognitive benefits from choline. It also plays a role in cell structure, cellular messaging, fat transport and metabolism, DNA synthesis and nervous system maintenance. These functions support brain health and can support improved brain functions like memory and focus (13). Choline bitartrate is often recommended between 500mg-3,000mg, and in this formula, there is 800mg per scoop.†

Pink Himalayan Sea Salt:

Next, we have pink Himalayan sea salt. Sodium is a major component in electrolytes which are lost when sweating. So, it’s possible that including pink Himalayan sea salt may aid in rehydration and help prevent muscle cramping. (14)

Caffeine:

Now we have the first stimulant in Godzilla Pre Workout, caffeine. Caffeine is one of the most popular stimulants available. This Central Nervous System (CNS) stimulant can help promote energy, focus, and mood and even support weight loss. (15) But  it’s important to understand where you fall in line with your tolerance to caffeine to avoid negative side effects like jitteriness. (16)

For example, a cup of coffee can contain around 90-100 mg of caffeine per 8oz. Ryse Godzilla Pre Workout has 175mg of caffeine per serving, so it can be compared to having 2 cups of coffee in one sitting.

Hydrolyzed Casein Tripeptides:

VasoDrive-AP (also known as AmealPeptide®) features two tripeptides that come from the amino acids valine, proline, and isoleucine. The combination of these tripeptides can help promote vasodilation, which can help maintain blood pressure. Additionally, this ingredient may also support exercise performance and improve recovery. (17)

Theobromine:

Theobromine is an alkaloid of Theobroma cacao and serves medicinal purposes as a bronchodilator and vasodilator. Although it has practically no stimulatory effects on the central nervous system, like caffeine, it may have stimulatory effects on smooth muscle, which contributes to its effects as a vasodilator. (18) Studies utilize a range of doses for theobromine, often between 250mg-1000mg. (19) Here in Godzilla Pre Workout, the dosage is featured at 100mg per scoop.

ZumXR® Extended Release Caffeine:

The next ingredient is ZumXR® Extended Release Caffeine. As the name suggests, this ingredient is an extended-release or time-release caffeine. By adding time-release caffeine to Godzilla Pre Workout, consumers can expect long-lasting energy without a crash. ZumXR® delivers no more than 25% caffeine during the first hour of ingestion. Then by the second hour, it delivers over 80%.†

Vincamine:

Our final ingredient in this formula is vincamine or Thinkamine™. This plant extract may be beneficial for increasing blood flow to the brain, reducing inflammation, and protecting against oxidative stress. (20,21,22) In Godzilla Pre Workout, this can assist with promoting focus and other cognitive functions.†

How To Take Ryse Godzilla Pre Workout:

The manufacturer recommends starting with one (1) scoop or half a serving. They also suggest only advanced users take two (2) scoops.

Section Divider: Similar To Godzilla Pre Workout

Similar To Godzilla Pre Workout:

Now that we’ve gone over what’s in Godzilla Pre Workout, let’s dive into similar products!

Similar to Godzilla Pre Workout

Universal Nutrition Animal Primal Pre Workout:

Universal Nutrition Animal Primal Pre Workout is the first similar product formula we’re diving into. This pre workout directly shares four ingredients with Godzilla Pre Workout:

  • Beta Alanine
  • Betaine Anhydrous
  • Choline Bitartrate
  • Caffeine

But, it also features a version of L-citrulline and sea salt.

Shared Ingredients:

From the four ingredients directly shared, the beta alanine and betaine anhydrous are at the same dosages. But, there is 500mg more of the choline bitartrate in Godzilla Pre Workout compared to Animal Primal. When it comes to caffeine, there is 300mg of it in Animal Primal compared to the 175mg per scoop in Godzilla Pre Workout.

As for the L-citrulline, in Animal Primal, this ingredient is featured in the patented ingredient blend, 3DPUMP-Breakthrough®. This ingredient also features glycerol and alma extract. With the addition of glycerol, this ingredient can promote cell volume, swelling, and hydration. While the alma extract provides antioxidant properties that can assist with improving blood flow. (23,24,25,26,27)

Finally, we have the sea salt in Animal Primal at 250mg per scoop, which matches the pink Himalayan sea salt dosage in Godzilla Pre Workout. Both of these ingredients may be beneficial for improving electrolyte balance. While there may be more trace minerals in pink Himalayan sea salt, it is unclear what this would impact in a pre workout. (28)

Now that we’ve gone over the ingredients these products shares, let’s go over what makes Animal Primal stand out.

Endurance & Performance Complex:

In addition to the beta alanine and betaine from this complex, Animal Primal also features L-taurine. Taurine is a conditionally essential amino acid that plays a role in many bodily functions like maintaining hydration, digestion, supporting CNS functions, and even may aid in regulating your immune system. (29) And when it comes to exercise performance, taurine may aid in protecting muscles from cell damage and oxidative stress while also removing waste products that lead to muscle fatigue. (30)

Focus & Intensity Complex:

Following the Endurance & Performance Complex is the Focus & Intensity Complex. Here you’ll find the focus enhancers and energizers. But, there are another four ingredients to this complex:

  • L-Tyrosine
  • Theacrine
  • Huperzine A
  • Herbal Energy Blend

L-tyrosine is an amino acid that is a precursor for several neurotransmitters; including Dopamine, and hormones; including thyroid hormones. However, increasing your body’s L-tyrosine levels doesn’t necessarily translate to increasing these compounds. Supplementing with L-tyrosine may assist with boosting alertness, attention, and focus. Tyrosine is commonly in doses of 500–2,000mg, so a dosage of 1g per serving is a great way to promote these benefits. (31,32,33,34) Following L-tyrosine is theacrine or Teacrine®. Theacrine is another energy source from this pre workout that may provide a smooth energy boost without jitters while promoting mental clarity and mood. (35)

Our next ingredient in this complex is huperzine A, which is common in fat burners and pre workouts.

This ingredient has medicinal uses as a natural anti-depressant, but it may be useful for improving focus. In fact, it’s been used in treatment plans for Alzheimer’s disease (36). Huperzine A may also be a nootropic that can promote increases in acetylcholine. Increasing acetylcholine can support increases in alertness, focus, and concentration. (37) Research studies often utilize huperzine at doses between 50-500mcg, but supplements can range from 50mcg to 2mg (2000mcg).

The final ingredient in this complex is the herbal energy blend, which features three extracts that can be standardized for caffeine. The first listed extract, green tea extract, tends to be more popular and common in fat burners than in pre workouts. But, it can add to the overall stimulatory effects in this blend and assist with exercise performance. Similarly, coffee bean extract contains chlorogenic acids and caffeine, which may aid in weight loss and is why it’s more common in fat burners. Additionally, the energy provided by the coffee bean extract may have more of a natural energy boost feel rather than the energy boost you feel from a cup of caffeine itself. Finally, we have the guarana seed extract, which is often standardized for caffeine. (38,39,40)

Electrolytes & Hydration:

In this next complex, Electrolytes & Hydration Complex, you’ll find the sea salt among other ingredients for supporting hydration, including:

  • Monopotassium Phosphate
  • Sodium Bicarbonate
  • Magnesium Chelate
  • Calcium Carbonate

This complex as a whole can assist with promoting rehydration and electrolyte balance. Additionally, sodium bicarbonate and calcium carbonate may help relieve heartburn and acid indigestion. (41,42,43,44)

Absorption & Nutrients Enhancers:

And finally, the last complex in Animal Primal the Absorption & Nutrients Enhancer Complex.

In this complex, you’ll find two ingredients:

  • AstraGin™
  • Senactiv®

These ingredients feature panax notoginseng extract, while AstraGin™ also includes astragalus extract, and Senactiv® also features rosa roxburghii tratt extract. These ingredients may assist with increasing the absorption of essential nutrients and ingredients in this formula. (45) However, more research is necessary on these ingredients.

How To Take Animal Primal Pre Workout:

The manufacturer recommends mixing two (2) rounded scoops of Animal Primal Pre Workout in 10-12oz of your beverage of choice 30 min before the workout. However, due to the potency of Animal Primal Pre Workout, you may want to start with one (1) rounded scoop and work up to 2 rounded scoops.

Do not consume more than one serving within 24 hours or 6-8 hours of bedtime.

Customer Review By Justin: “This pre is exactly what you expect from Animal! Great energy, great pump and you can tell they put some serious thought into these ingredients!”

Purus Labs Noxygen Pre Workout:

Our next similar product to Godzilla Pre Workout is Noxygen from Purus Labs.

This pre workout directly shares five ingredients with Godzilla Pre Workout, including:

  • Beta Alanine
  • Citrulline Nitrate
  • Choline Bitartrate
  • Caffeine
  • ZumXR®

Additionally, Noxygen also features betaine as betaine nitrate.

Shared Ingredients:

When comparing Noxygen and Ryse Godzilla Pre Workout, the beta alanine and citrulline nitrate are at the same dosages. Meanwhile, Noxygen has more caffeine and zumXR® extended release caffeine, featuring 25mg more caffeine and 42mg more zumXR®. However, Godzilla Pre Workout features 50mg more choline bitartrate per scoop. For the betaine anhydrous versus betaine nitrate, Godzilla Pre Workout features 1.5g more betaine anhydrous. But, the additional nitrates in Noxygen may improve the availability of the betaine. Even so, more research is necessary to understand which ingredient is better for training.

The remaining ingredients in Noxygen are also in Animal Primal:

  • Glycerol Powder
  • L-Tyrosine
  • Huperzia Serrata Extract

When comparing these products, it isn’t clear how much glycerol powder is in the 3DPUMP-Breakthrough®, so we won’t be able to determine which product has more. But, the is about 500mg more L-tyrosine in Animal Primal compared to Noxygen. In contrast, Noxygen features about 9.9mg more Huperzia than Animal Primal.

How To Take Noxygen Pre Workout:

The manufacturer recommends one serving (1 scoop) with 8-10oz of cold water and consuming 20-30 minutes before your workout. Do not exceed one scoop.

Customer Review By Bryan: “Felt really good with this pre! Taste good and mixes well too which is a great bonus. I really liked the pumps I got with this pre and how it wasn’t stim-heavy. But the extended release caffeine also makes this a great pre workout for the morning, no crash just sustained energy.”

Alpha Lion SuperHuman Pre Workout:

The next pre workout we will be comparing with Godzilla Pre Workout is Alpha Lion’s SuperHuman Pre Workout.

SuperHuman Pre directly shares four ingredients with Godzilla Pre Workout:

  • Caffeine
  • Theobromine
  • Beta Alanine
  • Betaine

But also include a different version of citrulline, L-Citrulline Malate.

Shared Ingredients:

Of the four ingredients directly shared between these products, all four are lower in dosages per scoop in SuperHuman Pre. Godzilla Pre Workout features 25mg more caffeine, 50mg more theobromine, 1.6g more beta alanine, and 1.25g more betaine. Then there is the L-citrulline malate, a combination L-citrulline and malic Acid. In SuperHuman Pre, there is only 3.5g of citrulline malate. But, in Godzilla Pre Workout, there is a 5.5g combination of L-citrulline and citrulline nitrate.

SuperHuman Pre also shares ingredients with Animal Primal and Noxygen, including:

  • L-Taurine
  • AstraGin®

SuperHuman Pre matches the dose of taurine with Noxygen but is lower in both ingredients than Animal Primal, where Animal Primal features 500mg more taurine and 12.5mg more AstraGin®.

Infinergy™ DiCaffeine Malate:

This ingredient is a good match-up for the zumXR® as both ingredients aim to extend the energy and reduce the risk of crashing. But, the research on these ingredients is limited.†

Nitrosigine™:

The following different ingredient is Nitrosigine™. Research suggests that this ingredient may increase arginine, silicon, and nitric oxide production. As a result, it could boost endurance, promote better recovery, and promote blood flow. (46)

S7™:

Next, we have S7™, which features a blend of 7 plants at 50mg per scoop:

  • Green Coffee Bean Extract
  • Green Tea Extract
  • Turmeric Extract
  • Tart Cherry
  • Blueberry
  • Broccoli
  • Kale

This blend may be beneficial for improving nitric oxide production and blood flow.

L-Theanine:

Following the S7™ is  L-theanine. Interestingly, this is not a common ingredient in pre workouts. Theanine is an anti-stress amino acid, often recognized for its “relaxation without sedation” effect. But, there may be a synergistic effect when combined with caffeine. Research suggests that this combination may promote heightened focus, awareness, and energy. (47)

BioPerine®:

Finally, we have Bioperine®, an ingredient similar to AstraGin®, in that they both may improve the absorption and availability of the other ingredients in this formula. (48)

How To Take SuperHuman Pre Workout:

The manufacturer recommends beginners mix one (1) scoop with 6-8oz water.  But, for advanced athletes, you can use two (2) scoops with 8-10oz of water. Consume 15-30 minutes before your workout.

Customer Review By John: “The pre-workout taste great gives me the focus and energy that I need with no crash. Will definitely be buying more products.”

Nutrex Research Outlift Amped:

The final product we’ll be comparing in this post with Ryse Godzilla Pre Workout is Nutrex Research’s Outlift Amped Pre Workout.

Outlift Amped directly shares four ingredients with Ryze Godzilla Pre Workout:

  • Beta Alanine
  • Betaine
  • Choline Bitartrate
  • Caffeine

Outlift Amped also features citrulline malate and a version of creatine.

Shared Ingredients:

Going through the label, Outlift Amped and Godzilla Pre Workout match doses for both the beta alanine and betaine. But, Godzilla Pre Workout features 300mg more of the choline bitartrate and 25mg more caffeine compared to Outlift Amped. However, there is 8g of citrulline malate per scoop in Outlift Amped compared to the 5.5g of the Ryse® Pump Fuel blend. Additionally, Outlift Amped features Creatine MagnaPower®, which may help increase muscle mass and strength faster than creatine monohydrate. Still, more research is necessary to support this. (49)

Outlift Amped also shares ingredients Animal Primal, Noxygen, and SuperHuman Pre:

  • Taurine
  • *Tyrosine
  • Theacrine
  • BioPerine®

Compared to the other pre workouts, Outlift Amped features more taurine at 2g per scoop and matches Animal Primal with Theacrine at 50mg per scoop. Outlift Amped also features more BioPerine® per scoop than SuperHuman Pre Workout (5mg to 2.5mg, respectively). Finally, there’s the tyrosine. Outlift Amped has 750mg of N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine (NAT) compared to the 500mg of L-tyrosine in Noxygen and 1g of L-tyrosine in Animal Primal. Some studies suggest NAT may be better for absorption compared to L-tyrosine. However, other studies suggest the conversion rate of NAT is poor, and L-tyrosine may be better. (50)

Caffeine Citrate:

Caffeine Citrate is fast-acting, making it very popular in supplements for an intense rush of energy. †

Rauwolscine:

Rauwolscine, also known as Alpha yohimbine or Rauwolfia Vomitoria, may be a stronger version of the popular fat burner ingredient yohimbine.† Where yohimbine is a stimulant and an alpha-2 antagonist, meaning it can stimulates adrenaline and noradrenaline receptors. This action can suppress appetite, improve energy and focus, and mobilize fat. (5152)

How To Take Outlift Amped Workout:

The manufacturers recommend shaking the container before each use. Then mix one (1) scoop into 8-12oz of cold water. Drink 30-45 minutes before working out. Limit use to 1 serving per day. Never exceed one scoop.

Customer Review By Sal: “I’m normally take pre workouts with a lot of caffeine and other stims, so this wasn’t as strong as I’m used to but overall very good. Still got an energy boost and had really good workouts. Gonna keep it in the pre workout rotation.”

Section Divider: Which Should You Try

Which Should You Try:

Deciding between pre workouts can be difficult, but understanding your training style can help you navigate the options. For example, one study’s results suggest low to moderate doses of caffeine (3-6 mg/kg) may help increase aerobic-based performance. However, there weren’t additional benefits at higher doses. (53) So, if you were around 120lb (~55kg), you might benefit from a dosage of 165mg-330mg. Additionally, you should consider the blend of focus and mood ingredients if you struggle with motivation in the gym. Lastly, we would take into account the value per serving.

Ryse Godzilla Pre Workout:

We recommend Ryse Godzilla Pre Workout for individuals looking for a pump and focus-oriented pre workout. Although it does contain caffeine and extended release caffeine, the baseline dosage for one scoop is lower than many other pre workouts.†

Universal Nutrition Animal Primal Pre Workout:

Animal Primal Pre Workout is a great option for individuals seeking a comprehensive pre workout. Animal Primal features an energy and focus blend with caffeine among herbal energizers like green tea extract for a moderate, clean-energy boost. Additionally, it features classic ingredients for pump/endurance and includes an electrolyte/rehydration blend. Overall providing a balance boost in exercise performance, pumps, focus, and energy.†

Purus Labs Noxygen Pre Workout:

We recommend Noxygen Pre Workout for individuals with a moderate stimulant tolerance. While only featuring two energy sources, Noxygen provides 200mg of caffeine per scoop and includes 67mg of extended-release caffeine. However, this formula is still a great option for boosting overall endurance and exercise performance. † We would suggest this pre workout be stored in a cool environment as the 1.5g of glycerol may increase the risk of clumping.†

Alpha Lion SuperHuman Pre Workout:

Alpha Lion SuperHuman Pre-workout is an excellent option for users with beginner-to-moderate caffeine tolerance. This formula offers a balance between stimulants and performance ingredients. Additionally, these ingredients are at dosages optimal for performance. Therefore, we recommend this pre workout for individuals who prefer a pump/endurance complex over a stimulant one.

Nutrex Research Outlift Amped:

Finally, we recommend Outlift Amped for individuals with moderate-to-high stimulant tolerance. As the formula features both caffeine anhydrous and caffeine citrate, the initial impact of the stimulants may be too intense for some individuals. Additionally, the inclusion of 8g of citrulline malate and other endurance ingredients can make this a great option for individuals looking for a balanced pre workout.
