Inderraj Singh Dhillon had the experience competing as a British powerlifter, and he had the requisite strength too. He just needed something new to hang his hat on as he rounds into form for the 2023 competitive season. Mission accomplished.

On Mar. 16, 2023, during the 2023 British Powerlifting (BP) Eleiko British Open Classic Championships, Singh Dillon captured a raw 385.5-kilogram (849.8-pound) deadlift. The pulling feat is a BP record in the 120-kilogram division and matches the current IPF World Record in the same class. The athlete wore just a lifting belt for the milestone and added it to his European Record of 375.5 kilograms (827.8 pounds). The contest took place in Nottingham, England.

Here’s an overview of Singh Dillon’s performance, where he also recorded all-time raw competition bests on his back squat, bench press, and total:

Inderraj Singh Dhillon (120KG) | 2023 Eleiko British Open Classic Top Stats

  • Squat — 347.5 kilograms (766.1 pounds) | All-Time Raw Competition Best
  • Bench Press — 182.5 kilograms (402.3 pounds) | All-Time Raw Competition Best
  • Deadlift — 385.5 kilograms (849.8 pounds) | British Powerlifting Record
  • Total — 915.5 kilograms (2,018.3 pounds) | All-Time Raw Competition Best

The previous BP raw deadlift record mark belonged to Luke Richardson, who deadlifted 385 kilograms (848.7 pounds) at the 2018 European Powerlifting Federation (EPF) European Classic Powerlifting Championships. Notably, Richardson weighed 147.2 kilograms (324.5 pounds) at the time of his lift, while Singh Dillon had a body weight of 119.6 kilograms (263.7 pounds). That means Singh Dillon surpassed Richardson’s BP record while weighing 27.6 kilograms (60.8 pounds) less than his peer.

“Roll on 12 weeks to Worlds where we pull for that world record!”

Looking ahead, Singh Dillon’s record pull and overall second-place performance earn him a spot in the upcoming 2023 International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) World Classic Powerlifting Championships. That competition featuring various other powerlifting stars from different weight classes and backgrounds will take place in Valletta, Malta, on Jun. 11-18, 2023. According to Open Powerlifting, the appearance will mark Singh Dillon’s debut at the contest.

Singh Dillon alluded not only to vying for a 120-kilogram weight class record, but to push for the IPF raw deadlift World Record. Per the IPF database, the current mark belongs to Bryce Krawczyk, who himself pulled 385.5 kilograms (849.9 Pounds) at the 2021 IPF Worlds. All Singh Dillon would have to do to pull ahead (no pun intended) is deadlift just any weight beyond his BP record. Theoretically, it should be a relatively simple task under the international spotlight.

In 10 sanctioned competitions over the course of his career, dating back to September 2018, Singh Dillon has captured three victories.

With two separate records now to his name, Singh Dillon has established himself as a powerlifting superstar. A resounding performance at the 2023 IPF Worlds might transform him into a household name.
